The Hon Danna Vale MP Minister for Veterans' Affairs Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence Federal Member for Hughes

VA155 Monday 2 December 2002

The Federal Government will bring forward Veterans’ Affairs pension payments for the week of Christmas, to help pensioners with their shopping and banking arrangements.

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale, said the regular payday for fortnightly pensions and allowances paid by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs was due to fall on the Boxing Day holiday - Thursday 26 December.

“To assist veteran and war widow pensioners, these payments will be paid three days early on Monday 23 December,” Minister Vale said.

“Pension payments will be credited to pensioners’ bank accounts so that the funds are available for use on 23 December. In the case of the small number of veteran pensioners who receive their payments by cheque, these are due to be delivered in the previous week, but will be dated 23 December 2002.

“These arrangements will ensure that veterans and war widows have timely access to their pension payments ahead of the holiday period,” the Minister said.

Minister Vale said pension payments after the Christmas holiday period would be made as normal, with the next payday falling on Thursday 9 January 2003.
