Hartsuyker welcomes NSW Government’s announcement of safety measures at Bonville

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, has welcomed today’s announcement by NSW State Minister for Roads, Joe Tripodi, that safety measures will be immediately introduced at Pine Creek.

Speaking from Federal Parliament in Canberra, Mr Hartsuyker said Mr Tripodi’s decision to reduce the speed limit at Bonville and install two speed cameras would help to make the road safer.

“It is a welcome interim step, prior to the construction of the Bonville Deviation next year.

“Until the Bonville Deviation project is completed it is essential the Roads and Traffic Authority implement safety measures which reduce the risk of further injury or loss of life.

“Following this announcement, the priority must be to have these safety improvements installed as soon as possible.”

As custodians of the road, Mr Tripodi announced yesterday the NSW State Government will spend $800,000 on installing the two speed cameras plus reducing the speed limit in the town from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.

The speed limit to the two approaches to Bonville will also be reduced from 90 km/h to 80km/h.

Mr Hartsuyker said he had been lobbying hard through the Federal Minister for Roads, Jim Lloyd, to have safety issues at Bonville addressed as a priority.

“Minister Lloyd made the Bonville Deviation the number one priority when he met with Mr Tripodi last week.

“As a result of that meeting Mr Tripodi has acted. I now look forward to the Roads and Traffic Authority commencing work on the Bonville Deviation as soon as possible.
