I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Conti QC as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Mr Conti has practised as a barrister at the New South Wales Bar since 1967. He was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 1977. Mr Conti’s practice involves a wide variety of jurisdictions including administrative and commercial law, banking, taxation, equity, corporations, consumer protection, trade practices and competition law. He served for several years as the Bar appointee on the Legal Profession Standards Board and is a former Chairman of the Judicial Committee of the New South Wales Rugby League. He has since served on certain Australian Rugby Union Disciplinary Appeal Committees.

Mr Conti will be based in Sydney and take up his appointment on 15 August. He will replace the Hon Justice James Burchett who will retire shortly.
