Australian Air Force Cadets and Active8 taking off in Kadina

The Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) in conjunction with the South Australian Government's Active8 youth program will launch a ground-breaking new regional youth program at the Kadina Memorial High School today.

The new Active8 program involves the formation of an AAFC Squadron and provides 121/2 -19 year olds with the opportunity to participate in variety of activities including: Drill and Ceremonial; Air Force Cadet Service Knowledge; Introduction to Aviation; Flying Experiences; Team Building Activities; Camps and Excursions; Leadership and Training.

The new Squadron will be given assistance by 614 Squadron from Port Pirie.

The Federal Government recognises the importance of nurturing young people and provides funding to the AAFC at State and Federal level.

The Ceremony will be attended by a variety of guests including Wing Commander (AAFC) Alan Saunders, Officer Commanding the South Australian, Australian Air Force Cadets, Mr Stephen Blight, Coordinating Director, Office for Youth and Ms Georgina Goodrich, Senior Police and Program Officer, Office for Youth.

What: Opening Ceremony for Air Force Cadet Squadron with Active8.

When: Friday 18 October 2002 at 12:30pm (AAFC Public Affairs will be in attendance from 12:15pm to assist media requests). The ceremony is expected to take approximately thirty minutes.

Where: Kadina Memorial High School, Doswell Terrace, Kadina, South Australia.
