Irwin Urges Sporting Women To Apply For Grant 14th January 2005

Federal Member for Fowler, Julia Irwin, has urged local sporting organisations and women currently involved in either a paid or volunteer capacity at national, state, regional or club level in the sport industry to apply for the 2005 Sports Leadership Grants for women.

Mrs Irwin said the grants were designed to provide local women with an opportunity to undertake accredited sport leadership training and also development in coaching, officiating, governance and management.

“The grants enable women in our community to undertake training in leadership which is vital to the future growth of sport both locally and nationally,” Mrs Irwin said.

Grants are available up to $5000 for individuals and $10,000 for organisations. The grants are available in five areas: high performance coaching and officiating, indigenous women in rural and remote communities, women in disability sport, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and women in general sports leadership.

“This is a great opportunity for women interested and involved in sport to obtain useful training that will contribute to their local sporting organisation and community.

“The closing date for applications on Friday 28 January. All those interested can contact my office on 9755 7911 for an application form or obtain further information at,” Mrs Irwin concluded.
