COMBINED PARADE VISIT HIGHLIGHTS COMMITMENT OF MELBOURNE HIGH SCHOOL’S CADETS Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Senator Eric Abetz visited today a combined parade of 15 Flight Air Training Corps (15 FLT AIRTC) and Melbourne High School Cadet Unit, Army Cadet Corps (ACC CU), two of the Australian Service Cadet Scheme units based in Melbourne.

Senator Abetz who was accompanied on his visit by Victorian Senator Tsebin Tchen, reviewed and addressed a combined parade of the cadets, toured the facilities and met with the Officers and Instructors of both Cadet units.

"The commitment of these young people to developing these skills and to Australia is highlighted by their willingness to serve in both the Air Training Corps and the Army Cadet Corps and undertake the rigorous training and discipline provided by units like these, " Senator Abetz said.

The Coalition government is committed to supporting the Australian Services Cadet Scheme. Such support includes the creation and recent first awarding of the Australian Cadet Forces

Medal and the commissioning of a review of the ASCS entitled Cadets: The Future that will determine how to further strengthen the ASCS in the future.

"It is important that not only the Government, but also the local community support young people in such endeavours. It is great to see such dedicated staff willing to give up their own spare time to provide leadership and guidance to these cadets," Senator Abetz said.

These two units make up some of the over 2,200 officers and instructors of cadets serving with the Australian Services Cadet Scheme, together with over 25,000 cadets in 427 units around Australia.
