Call for operational synergy between Eden-Monaro BECs Discussions with representatives of the Snowy Monaro and Queanbeyan Business Enterprise Centres (BECs) last Friday had been very positive, the Member for Eden-Monaro, Mike Kelly said this week.

“I believe we have firmly established a positive working relationship,” Dr Kelly said. “This meeting was a great opportunity to consolidate our ideas for promoting small business in Eden Monaro.

“I am determined to assist the BECs in whatever ways I can to continue to deliver their much needed services to the business communities across the electorate.”

Dr Kelly said he aimed to forge a strategic approach to the region through the BECs. A total of $350,000 in funding over three years for the Capital Region BEC in Queanbeyan had been the result of rigorous assessment before the election by the Labor Party as one of its election commitments.

“It will still have to go through the budget process next month, as will all our funding proposals,” Dr Kelly said. “Our intention is that the Capital Region BEC funding will be used to assist cooperation among the BECs and to support the continuing viability of the Snowy Monaro BEC.”

The Snowy Monaro BEC has argued a case for part of the $350,000 approved for the Queanbeyan BEC.

Dr Kelly reiterated the need for the BECs to work cooperatively and said he was looking forward to an ongoing dialogue with their executives.
