Wayne Swan MP Federal Member for Lilley

The Clayfield-Toombul RSL Sub-branch will receive a $1,000 grant from the Australian Government as part of the Saluting Their Service commemorations program.

The grant will help install a memorial stone and flagpole at the entrance of the Clayfield-Toombul All Wars Memorial Hall dedicated to veterans from the district who gave their lives while serving Australia during wars and conflicts.

I am pleased the Rudd Government is supporting this project and I congratulate the Clayfield-Toombul Sub-branch for their efforts to ensure the contribution of our service personnel is honoured and remembered.

Any attempt to recognize the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform is to be applauded and I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Saluting Their Service provides funding to help community and ex-service organisations honour the service and sacrifice of Australia’s servicemen and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

Local communities and ex-service organisations can apply for funding to help commemorate significant anniversaries this year such as the 90th anniversary of battles on the Western Front, the 90th anniversary of the Armistice and the 40th anniversary of the battles of Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral in Vietnam.
