  Media Release H28/2002 - 15 March 2002

Harmony and Hoops

Legendary Brisbane Bullets star, Leroy Loggins, and local member and Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Gary Hardgrave MP, will be slam dunking harmony hoops with Brisbane shoppers this Saturday.

The event will take place at Garden City Shopping Centre at Upper Mount Gravatt on Saturday 16 March from 1.00 to 2.00pm.

The Logan City Multicultural Neighbourhood Centre is staging this special basketball event to highlight their Sports Inclusion Program which assists children and young people from diverse cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds to access local sporting clubs.

The Sports Inclusion Program is part of the Government's Living in Harmony initiative, which aims to promote community harmony through local initiatives.

"I am proud to support this Harmony Day event and am particularly pleased with the support of our Harmony Day partner, AMP, and the Logan City Multicultural Neighbourhood Centre who have received over $40,000 as part of the Living in Harmony initiative," said Mr Hardgrave.

Harmony Day is administered by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs with assistance from the Council for Multicultural Australia. It provides the opportunity for Australians to celebrate our cultural diversity.

Harmony Day ribbons and stickers are available from Woolworths outlets in Brisbane and AMP shopping centres at Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, Garden City at Upper Mt Gravatt and the Mt Ommaney Centre.
