TROOPS LEAVE FOR AFGHANISTAN WITH LABOR’S WARMEST WISHES

24 August 2005

The Special Operations Task Group deploying to Afghanistan are unquestionably the best of the best.

Federal Labor expresses our warmest farewell wishes to these troops and our sincerest thanks to their families. We pray each soldier will return safely from duty to their loved ones.

Australian troops will return to a war ravaged country and they will face a dangerous enemy.

Nothing today is more crucial to global security than the defeat of al Qaeda and bringing associated terrorists to justice.

Our troops go to Afghanistan as ambassadors of freedom and with the unqualified support of the Federal Opposition.

They are all remarkable Australians and each soldier rightly carries the pride of our nation.
