AVIATION SECURITY POLICY

TRAVELLING PUBLIC TO FOOT THE BILL

The Minister for Transport’s aviation security policy dumps responsibility onto the industry and costs onto the travelling public.

Requiring the industry to foot the bill means the travelling public will again foot the bill, as they continue to do with the Ansett tax, and will also do if Joe Hockey gets his way and introduces a new tourism tax.

While Labor has pledged to scrap the Ansett ticket levy, the Howard Government continues to milk the tourism industry in the hope of covering up its fiscal vandalism.

The Howard Government is pocketing $11 million per month from the Ansett ticket levy and about $80 million per year from the Passenger Movement Charge.

But the Government can’t have it both ways - expect the travelling public to pay for aviation security while continuing to slug it with the Ansett levy.

The tourism industry is too important to be slugged again.
