Press Release Ref: 852 Published: 15/11/2002 Title: $56,000 for job generation for Braidwood

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, has announced his electorate has been granted $143,220 for several job generation projects.

The funding for the projects including one at Braidwood is provided under the Commonwealth’s Regional Assistance Program (RAP).

“I congratulate the Braidwood and District Chamber of Commerce for putting forward the proposal, Making It Happen-Cultural Heritage for Tallaganda Shire, which will provide real benefits for the area,” Mr Nairn said.

“The Capital Region Employment Council (CREC) endorsed the initiative as a significant employment generating opportunity for the local community.

“CREC is part of a network of 56 Area Consultative Communities throughout regional and metropolitan Australia that work in partnership with Government, business and the community to find sustainable solutions to regional employment issues.

“The Federal Government has approved $56,100 for the project, which will develop the latent cultural and tourism assets of the area.

“This demonstrates how a partnership between government and the community can enhance local job prospects in Tallaganda Shire,” Mr Nairn said.

“A Cultural Development Officer will be employed to increase the region’s reputation as a centre for artists and as a destination for cultural based tourism.
