29 November 2005

With the Christmas holidays not far away, I am pleased to announce that schools in the Boothby electorate have gained funding for an extra 115 Vacation Care places.

They are part of 180 new Outside School Hours Care places which have been approved for funding by the Howard Government. In addition to the Vacation Care places, there will be an extra 46 After School Care and 19 Before School Care places.

By providing these additional places, the Australian Government is proving yet again its commitment to helping people balance work and family commitments.

As a father of two young children, I know how challenging it can be to juggle these competing demands. The allocation of these places to our local schools will further help to provide quality and affordable child care to allow families to live, work and play.

The Howard Government is delivering 16,724 Outside School Hours Care places to 894 services across Australia. These places are part of a commitment in the 2005-06 Budget of more than $260 million over four years for additional child care support.

For more information about child care, families can call the Australian Government’s national Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305.
