FUNDING FOR ABORIGINAL MEN'S HEALTH WORKSHOP

In a first for the remote East Arnhem region of the Northern Territory, local Aboriginal men are this week participating in a workshop to address their particular and pressing needs.

In welcoming the initiative, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Department of Health and Aged Care, Senator Grant Tambling, salid that the Department had provided five thousand dollars to support the costs of this important regional forum.

"Aboriginal men from East Arnhem have never before gathered together to specifically focus on issues that affect their health and the health of Aboriginal men in their community," said Senator Tambling

The workshop will have the added advantage of providing an opportunity for Views expressed at this meeting to be taken forward to the planned First National Indigenous Male Health Convention to be held at Ross River Homestead on 4 and 5 October. lle Convention will take place immediately prior to the National Men's Health Conference in Alice Springs from 6-8 October

"I congratulate the Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation and the Aboriginal Men's Health Steering Committee for encouraging Aboriginal men to take direct ownership for aspects of their physical and mental health," said Senator Tambling.

The three day East Arnhein Men's Health Workshop is being held in the mining town of Nhulunbuy &om 10-12 August.
