Immigration Minister to hold talks on Regional Cooperation MPS 073/2001

The Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Philip Ruddock, will visit Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam as part of the Government's ongoing international campaign to enhance cooperation on the illegal movement of people.

Mr Ruddock will leave Australia on Tuesday 12 June and return on 16 June.

He will visit Jakarta, Bangkok and Hanoi for discussions with Government Ministers and officials. The discussions will focus on experiences and initiatives in dealing with people smugglers and illegal arrivals as well as cooperation on return agreements.

The Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator Chris Ellison will be acting Minister while Mr Ruddock is overseas.
