Westpac - A Corporate Leader for Indigenous Employment Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business, Tony Abbott, today welcomed Westpac to the Corporate Leader for Indigenous Employment Project.

Westpac is the first member of the banking industry to become a Corporate Leader for Indigenous Employment.

The Project engages corporate Australia in the generation of more jobs in the private sector for indigenous people. It encourages Australian companies to employ more indigenous people.

“To reduce indigenous unemployment we need greater private sector involvement,” said Mr Abbott.  “Westpac can help achieve this goal.”

“The assistance and participation of private sector organisations, like Westpac can make a real difference to the lives of Indigenous Australians.”

The Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment project was launched in May 1999 as a key element of the Government’s Indigenous Employment Policy.
