Federal Member for Chifley

PO Box 259 Mt Druitt NSW 2770

"Labor has fought to successfully re-establish the Senate Select Committee on the Socio-Economic Consequences of the National Comp etition Policy" Mr Roger Price MP, Federal Member for Chifley said today.

However Mr Price has also been critical of the timetable given by the Howard Government for the Committee to complete it's task.

"Under the chairmanship of Senator John Quirke from South Australia, this Committee will be touring capital cities over the coming weeks in order to meet as many groups as possible regarding Competition Policy."

"The Committee is operating on a very tight timetable and submissions will close on April 23 rd ", Mr Price said.

"At this stage, the date for the Committee's trip to Sydney has not been finalised, however any interested party can lodge their submissions with my office and I will ensure the committee receives them."

"This is an extremely important issue for many in our community who have been adversely effected by this policy. It is your chance to have your say about National Competition Policy and to tell the government exactly how it has affected you."

"I find it a shame that the government has chosen such a narrow timetable for the committee to do its work. It is another example of how little this government listens to the people who have been hurt by their policies."
