$1,608,891.01 IN COMMUNITY WATER GRANTS ROUND 2 FUNDING FOR NORTH WEST VICTORIA

The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee, John Forrest today enthusiastically announced that 37 community groups in North Western Victoria will share in $1,608,891.01for projects to save, recycle or improve the health of local water resources.

“I commend the communities in the electorate of North Western Victoria who are helping ensure a sustainable and water-wise future,” Mr Forrest said.

Mr Forrest said these projects were being funded under the $200 million Community Water Grants programme, which is part of the $2 billion Australian Government Water Fund.

“It is particularly pleasing to see that our region has 37 successful projects to be funded given the ravages of drought that can be plainly seen in many of our communities. These projects will go some way to ensure that these community groups have sustainable water systems into the future,” said Mr Forrest.

“The Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Heritage, Senator Ian Campbell and the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry and Conservation, Senator Eric Abetz, announced the 1,444 community groups across the country who will receive Australian Government funding totalling $61.7 million under Round 2 of Community Water Grants. The funding will help to implement practical on-the-ground projects.”

Mr Forrest said that it was expected that nationally, Community Water Grants projects will save 9,518 mega litres of water per year, and that community groups will donate 560,000 volunteer hours to implement the projects.”

These projects show just how much water everyday Australians can save by using inexpensive, practical solutions and I encourage all community groups to take part in the next round of Community Water Grants,” Mr Forrest said.
