Labor’s true colours on HMAS Sydney II

Labor today voted against a motion passed in the Senate in relation to the discovery of the resting place of the Senate

Shadow Immigration Minister Senator Chris Ellison said it was very disappointing that Labor did not support the Coalition motion on the HMAS Sydney II in the Senate today.

The motion called on the Government to support families and friends of the victims of this disaster by proclaiming HMAS Sydney an official war grave and ensuring a memorial service is held as soon as possible.

The motion also congratulated those involved in the successful search. Senator Ellison said that funding provided by the previous Federal Government and the State Governments of New South Wales and Western Australia had enabled the search to be conducted

“All other aspects of the motion were factual, yet Labor could not bring itself to acknowledge the work of the search team or that the former Government had invested significantly in the search.”

Senator Ellison paid tribute to those in the Finding Sydney Foundation who had worked hard over many years to find the HMAS Sydney II.
