Press Release 8 July 2004

CHILD CARE FUNDING FOR COOTAMUNDRA The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull today welcomed the allocation of $13,598 in Disadvantaged Area Subsidy recurrent funding to assist families in Cootamundra access quality, outside school hours care. Mrs Hull said the funding was in recognition of the extra costs of providing child care in regional, rural and remote areas, representing a boost for families in Cootamundra. “This Disadvantaged Area Subsidy recurrent funding from the Federal Government will benefit Cootamundra Before School Care and Cootamundra After School Care and help to ensure ongoing access to quality child care for families in and around Cootamundra,” Mrs Hull said. “Families in rural and regional areas often have fewer child care choices than those in larger centres and it is important that we provide additional support to these services. “Many families in our region have situations where both parents are required to work on the farm or travel large distances for work, with easy access to quality child care essential. “Together with the Government, I have worked to improve access to quality child care for local families and I’m pleased to see the Disadvantaged Area Subsidy funding continuing for the Cootamundra Outside School Hours Care.” Mrs Hull said this funding demonstrates the Howard-Anderson Government’s commitment to providing affordable and quality child care services for all families, regardless of where they live. To assist with the costs of child care, families that use Australian Government approved child care services can claim Child Care Benefit. For more information about child care families can call the Australian Government’s national Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305.
