Kerry Nettle, Senator for New South Wales

Two hands needed to rip up WorkChoices:

6th May 07

Greens Senator Kerry Nettle told the thousands rallying to mark May Day in Sydney that a vote for The Greens in the Senate is as important as a vote for Labor in the House of Representatives to get rid of WorkChoices.

"It takes two hands to rip up WorkChoices, the second hand is the Greens in the balance of power in the Senate. Unless people vote Green in record numbers the Coalition will continue to control the Senate and block attempts to rip up these unfair laws," Senator Nettle said.

"The Greens urge everyone concerned by the impact of WorkChoices on workers rights, on family life, and on democratic freedoms to vote Green in the Senate to take control of the Senate from the Coalition.

"Without control of the Senate Labor's commitment to rip up WorkChoices is empty rhetoric. The Greens can make it happen by becoming the balance of power party in the Senate at this election.

"The Greens Industrial Relations policy is built on a commitment to fairness and social justice, that's why we support the right to strike and unfair dismissal laws for all workers.

"Defending working peoples' rights is about defending the Australian way of life."
