Local Young Farmer New National Council Member

Tuesday, 20 December 2005

Federal Member for Gwydir, John Anderson, today congratulated Richard Wright of Moree on his appointment as an inaugural member of the National Council of Young Farmers. The Australian Government Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Peter McGauran, announced the names of the 12 inaugural members today. The council will: • provide quality advice to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Australian Government • be informed on major issues facing Australia’s agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries • improve access to government and industry for young people keen to make a positive contribution • represent the young people in our agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries. “Through the council, Richard will have an ongoing voice in Canberra and progress the recommendation of last September’s successful National Young Farmers Forum,” Mr Anderson said. “I understand the selection process was difficult because of the high quality of the applications. Richard will make a significant contribution to Australia’s rural industries in the coming years.” Mr Anderson said the 12 members came from across Australia and represented a diverse range of industries. ”They also have a good understanding of the key issues and challenges,” Mr Anderson said. The council will hold its first meeting towards the end of January 2006 and report directly to Minister McGauran.
