Elizabeth Nosworthy appointed to National Gallery Board

Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Nosworthy to the Board of the National Gallery of Australia (NGA).

'Ms Nosworthy has been appointed for a term of three years and brings a wealth of business experience and management skills that will be a great asset in the Board's deliberations,' Senator Kemp said.

Ms Nosworthy's is currently the non-executive company director of the Brisbane Institute and the Deputy Chairman, City of Brisbane Arts and Environment Ltd. She is also a director of a number of organisations including David Jones Ltd, Brisbane Airport Corporation and Australia TradeCoast.

The NGA is one of Australia's finest cultural institutions. It helps to enhance understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts and is committed to giving all visitors a positive experience by collecting and exhibiting the very best in visual art.

Currently the Gallery features Sari to Sarong which brings together some of the greatest surviving examples of traditional Indonesian and Indian textiles. The exhibition demonstrates the remarkable exchanges of ideas, materials, designs and imagery-royal and religious-between the two great cultures over the last one thousand years. The exhibition continues until 6 October 2003.

'Ms Nosworthy's experience and commitment to the arts will ensure the Gallery continues to delight Australian and overseas visitors,' Senator Kemp said.
