Upgrade for Meercroft Park Sports Centre

Tuesday, 14 March 2006

Facilities at the Meercroft Park Sports Centre in Devonport will be significantly upgraded with the aid of a $45,406 Regional Partnerships grant, the Federal Member for Braddon, Mark Baker MP, announced today.

Mr Baker said the Australian Government funding will assist with stage two of construction of the Centre, which will provide a disabled access ramp and emergency exits for the first storey.

“This stage of the construction will complete the building and landscaping works and make the Sports Centre ready for occupancy,” Mr Baker said.

“The project means a multi-use sports facility will soon be available for residents of Devonport and surrounding areas.

“The Centre will also be able to host intra-state and national tournaments, generating economic benefits for the Devonport community.”

Mr Baker congratulated the local community for working together to access Regional Partnerships program funding.

“I would particularly like to acknowledge the Devonport City Council and the Area Consultative Committee Tasmania for helping to bring this project to fruition,” he said.

“I would also like to acknowledge the financial support provided by Meercroft Park Sports Centre Inc, Devonport Touch Football and Devon Hockey Association.”
