Julian McGauran Liberal Senator for Victoria

Monday, 18 September 2006

Liberal Senator for Victoria, Julian McGauran will officially open the Central Wendouree Bowling Club’s new bowling green at 2:00 pm today. The Club received funding of $50,000 to assist with the cost of construction of the green through the second round of the Australian Government Community Water Grants Scheme. The Community Water Grants programme is the community component of the $2

billion Australian Government Water Fund. The new bowling green, which replaced one of the three grass greens, is an all weather synthetic carpet green that can be played on all year round. It will use minimal or no water, saving approximately 600 kilolitres of water each year. The Central Wendouree Bowling Club has a storage capacity of 135 kilolitres capturing water from all roofing, car parks and recycling water used on their No. 2 green. The new green also has a system in place to retain water below the surface to maintain constant moisture and further limit water use. All the rain that falls on the new synthetic green is being drained into a sump and is then pumped into an existing storage unit. A further two storage tanks have been added increasing the storage capacity to 189 kilolitres.
