John Anderson MP Federal Member for Gwydir Electorate.

Tuesday, 21 November 2006

Member for Gwydir, John Anderson, today officially opened the refurbished Mendooran Community Centre, near Dubbo. Mr Anderson said Australian Government Regional Partnerships programme funding of more than $25,000 assisted the Warrumbungle Shire Council to equip and furnish the centre with IT, media and medical equipment, as well as whitegoods and office furniture. “The centre will be used by visiting GPs and health professionals, and this excellent facility will provide the Medooran community with a base for health and community services for many years to come,” Mr Anderson said. “The centre also provides the Mendooran’s many community groups with a modern meeting place, and will encourage greater community interaction,“ he said. Mr Anderson congratulated the local community for working together to access Regional Partnerships programme funding. “I would particularly like to thank the Orana Area Consultative Committee for helping to bring this project to fruition. I would also like to acknowledge the financial support provided by Gaincorp and the Mendooran and District Development Group,” he said. The Regional Partnerships programme continues the Australian Government’s approach of working with local communities to support their ideas. A total of $270.5 million is available under the Regional Partnerships programme from 2006-07 to 2009-10. Mr Anderson said the Regional Partnerships programme would deliver benefits to communities well into the future, not only from programme funding, but from the higher levels of economic activity and improved social amenity which the programme was generating. Since its inception in July 2003, the Regional Partnerships programme has, on average, attracted a further three dollars from other sources for every dollar invested by the Australian Government. Communities should contact Orana Area Consultative Committee on 6885 1488 if they wish to seek funding through the Regional Partnerships programme.
