HEADS SHOULD ROLL OVER SANDON POINT

The findings of the Commission of Inquiry into the Stockland development at Sandon Point are an overwhelming vindication of community concerns and the battle over the last 15 years, Cunningham MP Michael Organ said today.

“The findings of Commissioner Mark Carleton and Deputy Chairperson Kevin Cleland are a damning indictment of the way in which Wollongong City Council and the other planning authorities including Planning NSW, the Department of Land and Water Conservation and the National Parks and Wildlife Service have dealt with this vitally important area.”

“The people responsible for what Wollongong Council general manager Rod Oxley admitted on ABC Radio this morning has become a debacle must be held accountable; heads should roll.”

“Wollongong Council and Stockland’s master plan for Sandon Point stands condemned and State Planning Minister Craig Knowles must now support the Commission of Inquiry’s recommendations”, Mr. Organ concluded.
