Going for Gold - Immigration Entry Arrangements for the Olympic and Paralympic Games


The Joint Standing Committee on Migration will table its report

“Going for Gold - Immigration Entry Arrangements f or the Olympic and Paralympic Games” on Monday 27 September 1999.


The Committee was asked by the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Philip Ruddock MP, to inquire into and report on:


1. Australia’s temporary entry provisions and t heir capacity to meet the special needs arising from the Games;


2. The planned arrangements for the entry and departure of Olympic and Paralympic Family Members at the time of the Games; and


3. The planning and coordination arrangements for informing vis itors of the entry requirements at the time of the Games.


Mrs Chris Gallus MP, Chair of the Committee, will table the report.


A press conference has been scheduled immediately following the tabling of the report, at 1.15 p.m. on Monday afternoon. An addi tional press release will be available at the conference.
