Third group of local job seekers relocate to Western Australia as a result of pilot programme

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, today announced a third group of local unemployed people has relocated to Western Australian as a result of an Australian Government Job Relocation Pilot Programme.

Mr Hartsuyker said a further four job seekers departed from Coffs Harbour on Sunday to commence work in Western Australia with the Compass Group which is a mining services provider.

The three men and one woman who left Coffs Harbour on Sunday ranged in age from 33 to 54 years.

They will settle in for a week and then have a week of further training prior to commencing work at their new jobs.

Mr Hartsuyker said the unemployed group was the third to relocate and follows the successful employment of 22 other job seekers to Western Australia. The job seekers came from Coffs Harbour and Nowra.

“Of the 22 job seekers who have moved to Western Australia, 21 have commenced traineeships as plasterers and one has secured a job as a kitchen hand,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“This relocation pilot programme is something I fought very hard for and it is pleasing to see job seekers being presented with the opportunity to relocate and finding work.”

“Through the relocation pilot, air fares and some early settlement costs are paid for. The programme also helps organise any training needed and ensures the person arrives with a real job offer and immediate accommodation,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

As an extension of the pilot programme, a project which trains job seekers in cleaning and catering is also underway. The jobs involve fly in and fly out work to the mining industry which enables those employed to be based in Perth.

The pilot programme is being co-ordinated locally by Wesley Employment Services.
