Press Release

27 November 2006 MORE THAN $2.6 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR RIVERINA SCHOOLS

The Nationals Member for Riverina, Kay Hull, today announced that 38 Riverina state schools will receive a total of $2.6 million in funding under the Investing in Our Schools programme. Mrs Hull said the grants will enable the schools to purchase and construct much needed items as shade structures, playground equipment, computer equipment, security and safety equipment and air conditioning. “I am thrilled that these grants have been approved for these school communities who contribute so much with volunteering, raising money and supporting teachers and staff,” Mrs Hull said. “This programme provides funding for projects identified by schools and provides the opportunity for schools to build facilities that would otherwise need to be raised by the school community. “The new facilities developed will enhance the education and well being of students.” Mrs Hull said schools not listed as receiving grants under this round of funding will be contacted by the Department directly to discuss the outcome and reasons for the decision. Since 2005, the Investing in Our Schools programme has provided and will

continue to provide an additional $700 million in capital funding to state schools. During the life of the programme, all state schools are eligible and encouraged to apply for grants of up to $150,000 for small scale infrastructure projects.
