At a Centenary of Federation Volunteers Picnic held in Moruya yesterday the Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, announced his intention to officially honour 100 local volunteers. “So many volunteers in Eden-Monaro deserve recognition for their tireless work,” said Mr Nairn. “As it is the International Year of Volunteers (IVY) I propose to honour 100 local volunteers with a certificate signed by the Prime Minister and the official International Year of Volunteers (IVY) lapel pin.” These will be awarded to 100 local volunteers who fulfil all or any of the following criteria; · is an outstanding role model to the community; · has made a significant or outstanding contribution to the wellbeing of people; · presents a significant positive image of voluntary contribution; or · is or has been a quiet achiever working for their community in a voluntary capacity. “Volunteers and voluntary organisations are an essential part of every community as they help to build leaders and encourage partnerships amongst people. This is just a small way of recognising those who work tirelessly for the betterment of others.” Applications forms are available from the office of Gary Nairn by calling (freecall) 1800 041 539. Nominations are open to all residents of Eden-Monaro, regardless of age. Applications close on Friday 29 June 2001.
