Groundbreaking aged-care web site launched

A new web site that will help reduce the time it takes and the confusion out of searching for aged care services, was launched today in Canberra by the Minister for Ageing, Senator Santo Santoro.

Senator Santoro said the Aged Care Australia web site would provide people with faster access to information about aged care services through its interactive capabilities that include an ‘Aged Care Home Finder’, ‘Community Care Service Finder’ and a ‘My Page’ feature.

“These features allow people to find all the relevant details on approved homes and community care services in their local area,” Senator Santoro said.

“Using the Aged Care Home Finder, people can save valuable time searching for the right home. Instead of travelling to several places to compare services, Internet users can now view and compare homes online and decide which best meets the needs of a particular person.

“For instance, people can find out which homes providing specialised programs for people with arthritis also have movie days and live theatre as part of their regular activities.

“With the click of a button people can view photographs of facilities as well as maps of their location that show the proximity to shops, parks and other important facilities.”

The Community Care Service Finder also helps people search for services in their local area to support them staying at home, including personal nursing, home modification, maintenance, and transport services.

“The My Page feature allows users to store, update and share with family and friends material they have selected from the site. It also allows family members interstate or overseas to be a part of what is a very important decision,” Senator Santoro said.

“I believe this new web site will take some of the difficulty and confusion out of one of the hardest decisions faced by older Australians and their loved ones.”
