Irwin Supports Active Schools

Federal Fowler MP, Julia Irwin, says she is impressed by the take-up rate for local primary schools and after-school services participating in Australian Sports Commission’s activities program.

“In the Fairfield and Liverpool parts of my electorate there are 9 Active After-School Communities (AASC) programs operating out of a total 1,800 across Australia.

“That’s an excellent achievement and I hope more schools and services will be accepted into the program as it expands.”

Mrs Irwin said the federal government scheme provided funding for Sports Commission approved physical activities for 5 - 12-year-olds after school.

“The feedback is that children are enjoying the activities and schools, and outside-school-hours services, are keen on being part of this healthier living initiative.

“The AASC program is expected to almost double in numbers in the next year and I am sure we will see more of our local school and after-school services joining the ranks,” Mrs Irwin said.

Participating primary schools and outside school hours (OOSH) care services:

• Anglicare Migrant Services OOSH

• Ashcroft Public School

• Bonnyrigg Heights Primary School

• Busby Primary School

• Cabramatta Public School

• Green Valley Public School

• Mt Pritchard OOSH

• Our Lady of the Rosary OOSH

• Villawood North Public School
