The Minister for Industry, Science and Tourism, John Moore, today welcomed the d ecision by US-based computer software company, Ardent Software , to join the Federal Government’s Fixed Term Arrangement (FTA) Programme and commit $64.4 million to related activities over the next four years.

Ardent Software advises it will invest $13.8 million in research and development, and $15.3 million in its regional headquarters in North Sydney,” Mr Moore said. “The company also anticipates earning $34.9 million in exports.”

Ardent Software is a world leader in database and data warehousing software technology. Developers of business software applications use this technology to build mission-critical software for companies in such industries as banking, hospitality, government and manufacturing.

“The company plans to implement a two-pronged export programme that uses local business partners to distribute its products through the Asia-Pacific region,” Mr Moore said. “It will also assist a number of its partners to build business relationships outside Australia.

“I am particularly pleased that Australian companies will be assisted to develop and expand their commercial operations.

“The company’s commitment both to continued investment and to expansion of its regional headquarters is indicative of its faith in the future of information industries in Australia.”

Ardent Software‘s Asia-Pacific regional headquarters is responsible for general management, marketing, finance and administration of its operations in China, Japan, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Korea and Singapore.

The company’s software facility has a research and development team of 22 people focussed on the development of application development tools and tool kits.

The Government’s FTA Programme encourages international information technology and communications companies to develop and expand their commercial operations in Australia.
