Kimberley Native Title Success shows Labor's Commitment

Labor welcomes the native title determination granted to the Miriuwung, Gajerrong and Kija people in the Kimberley region.

Today's native title determination reinforces and validates Labor's commitment on native title, says Federal Labor.

The Federal Court has granted the Miriuwung Gajerrong No.4 Native Title Claim over 6758 square km of the Kimberley Region, opening up the potential for Indigenous partnerships in economic development.

The success adds to Labor's strong track record on delivering negotiated native title outcomes.

The co-operative approach of the claimants, pastoralists and the State Labor Government also demonstrates that fear-mongering has no place in native title anymore - the world has simply moved on.

The determination provides important recognition for the law and customs of the Miriuwung, Gajerrong and Kija people - as well as a gateway for economic opportunity.
