May the forthcoming festive season provide peace and joy to all.

Goodwill to humankind was the message heralded to the world when the baby Christ

arrived. Regardless of one’s personal convictions on the significance of this fact, the

truth is, this baby grew to be a man now measured with the greatest of philosophers.

Despite the world moving on historically since, continuing to make the same old mistakes,

there is great merit in considering the principles associated with the Christmas spirit to

spur us on to do better.

Central to this is the message of goodwill to all. This world has the potential to be a

better place and we each have a role to play. No matter what our circumstances, we

start with friends and family and neighbours. We exchange gifts and messages of

encouragement. We reach out to the needy around us and already, the world begins to

be a better place.

It is my hope that the festive season provides opportunity for genuine goodwill and

harmony which is the real fruit of a Merry Christmas.

Together with my wife Pam and family I wish everyone a very happy and safe festive

season, and look forward to continuing our work together in 2004.
