FEDERAL LABOR LEADER

JOINT STATEMENT BY FEDERAL LABOR LEADER MARK LATHAM AND SHADOW MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY, INNOVATION, SCIENCE AND RESEARCH SENATOR KIM CARR

Mitsubishi

Federal Labor stands ready to work hand in glove with the Rann Government to keep Mitsubishi operating in South Australia.

It is disappointing that DaimlerChrysler has announced it is not participating in a capital injection needed by Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi’s Adelaide plant has been reinvigorated through major investments. The plant is well into preparations for the new model and management is ready to establish a state of the art research and development facility.

It would be a tragedy if all the hard work that has been invested by Mitsubishi management and workers over the last few years is wasted.

Labor understands that the constant speculation about the ongoing operation of Mitsubishi’s plants and the viability of the automotive components sector is worrying for workers and the families. I can assure them we will do everything we can to assist.

This issue is above politics. It is about the future of thousands of South Australian families.
