MUA SEEKING DOCUMENTS

The High Court has already ruled on the use of conclusive certificates and the union should accept that times have moved on.

The reforms to the waterfront were critical in boosting national productivity and were in Australia’s national interest.

The MUA boasts that it has unfettered access to the Prime Minister and Senior Ministers, and has also been seeking from the Government access to confidential information about non-union workers in its industry.

I am concerned the now Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner was involved when he was in Opposition in pursuing confidential Government documents in relation to the waterfront dispute on behalf of the Maritime Union.

I seek an assurance from the Government that no Government Minister or anyone on their behalf will work behind the scenes to release confidential information in breach of the law.

The MUA has a long history of thuggery, intimidation and revenge, and this is typical of the Labor-Union culture of payback and retribution.

Past MUA behaviour on the waterfront was unacceptable and will be never be acceptable in the future.

There must be no return to union thuggery on Australia’s waterfront.
