Whole-of-Government CIO Advertised

An important and positive step towards securing a permanent Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Australian Government had been undertaken today with advertisements placed for the position, the Special Minister of State, Senator Eric Abetz said today.

“The Australian Government established the role of the Australian Government CIO to promote excellence in the way government agencies use information technology,” the Minister said.

“This is a very important leadership role with significant cross-portfolio coordination responsibilities.

“The CIO will be responsible for the leadership and coordination of projects relating to information and communications technology and the Internet which affect the whole of government or multiple agencies.”

The position heads up the Australian Government Information Management Office, and is a General Manager in the Department of Finance and Administration.

Advertising for the position commenced today, and will cease on the closing date for applications, Friday, 29 April 2005.

The Department of Finance and Administration has engaged a professional executive recruitment agency to help with the candidate search for the position of AGCIO.
