LABOR’S IR TASKFORCE VISIT A POLITICAL STUNT

Wednesday, 22 February 2006

Labor’s IR taskforce visit to Townsville today is nothing more than a stunt! “How can they have an inquiry when the new IR system hasn’t even commenced,” Member for Herbert, Peter Lindsay, said today. “Are they going to inquire into the 15% real increase in wages delivered by the Howard Government, the record low unemployment and the record level of jobs created,” Mr Lindsay said. “Clearly the reforms will benefit Australia, yet the ALP IR taskforce prefers Australia to go back to the past. “The highly respected and independent Productivity Commission has found that the average household income can be boosted by $22,000 a year by continuing the reform process. “Why does the ALP oppose Australian workers getting even bigger pay rises? “The Government is committed to achieving that, but Labor wants to stand in the way,” Mr Lindsay said.
