Barnett Joins Parliamentary Delegation To Denmark and Sweden

Friday, 14 October 2005

Senator Guy Barnett departs this weekend with an official Parliamentary delegation to Denmark and Sweden, which will include studies of wind farms and a tour of the Vestas Wind Systems manufacturing plant in Denmark.

Senator Barnett will also meet parliamentary and other officials to discuss issues such as pulp mills and childhood obesity.

The delegation is being led by House of Representatives Speaker the Hon David Hawker, with hopes at this stage of the delegation having an audience with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

Senator Barnett is Chairman of the Federal Parliamentary Denmark Friendship Group and was responsible for securing the Australian Flag flown in the House of Representatives on the day of the marriage between Princess Mary and Prince

Frederik, and presenting it to the Royal couple as a momento.

He has previously raised the idea of a sister city relationship between Tasmanian cities and Copenhagen to help strengthen trade and cultural ties in light of the Royal link to Tasmania.
