Ms Vanessa Fanning has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of Health Services Australia Ltd.


Announcing her appointment today, the Federal Parl iamentary Secretary for Health and Family Services, Trish Worth, said Ms Fanning had a strong track record in innovative policy development and strategic thinking in both the public and private sectors.


"Her broad experience and strong negotiating skills will be a valuable asset to Health Services Australia in its new role as a Government Business Enterprise," Ms Worth said.


Ms Fanning's most recent appointment was as a senior adviser to David Mortimer, Chief Executive of the multinational transport company TNT.


Her 10 years' experience at the Senior Executive level of the Australian Public Service included successfully leading major policy and organisation changes across a range of Government Business Enterprises in the Transport and Communication portfolios.


Formerly the Australian Government Health Service, Health Services Australia was established as a Government Business Enterprise on 1 July last year. Its function is to provide an independent health assessment and medical advisory service to Commonwealth and other agencies.


Health Services Australia's 300 staff are located in 14 offices in capital cities and regional centres around Australia.
