56 new Work for the Dole places in Hunter

56 jobseekers in the Hunter will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through one of four new Work for the Dole projects across the region, NSW Senator Sandy Macdonald announced today.

“The Australian Government is committed to the Work for the Dole program, which has gone from strength to strength in this region,” Senator Macdonald said.

“As a mutual obligation initiative, the objective of the program is to encourage jobseekers to become more focused on obtaining skills that can be used in the workforce, while giving something back to the community that is supporting them,” he said.

• Community Market Garden project, Maitland (14 places) irrigation, fencing, general construction, concreting, care of chickens.

• Fitzparkfix, Muswellbrook (12 places) a parkland and rivercare beautification plan to build new boardwalks, viewing platforms and seats.

• Hunter Work Skills Development, Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Maitland (18 places) retail, office administration and reception, kitchen and customer service work experience placements.

• Landscapes Incorporated, Cessnock (12 places) landscaping design and techniques, concreting, painting, building shade areas and timber seating.

“These local facilities will benefit greatly from these Work for the Dole projects,” Senator Macdonald said.

Senator Macdonald has also encouraged participants and others involved with the Work for the Dole program to nominate a participant, supervisor or project for the Prime Minister’s Work for the Dole Achievement Awards.
