Arthur Boyd’s tribute

The Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre officially opened today providing a c reative and inspirational experience for students of all ages who visit Bundanon.

‘A trip to the Education Centre, which forms part of the Bundanon Trust, will be a memorable event for any visitor,’ Federal Arts Minister, Peter McGauran said.

‘The works of Arthur Boyd and other members of his family are inspirational.

‘So too is the Shoalhaven River which the Education Centre overlooks,’ he said.

‘Visitors will be able to enjoy the distinctive Australian landscape, meet visiting artists and draw enthusiasm from Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s magnificent collection as well as other works left with the Trust by artists-in-residence.

‘The concert hall and open amphitheatre add to the atmosphere and provide the perfect backdrop for special events.

‘The centre is available for school children and adult groups to spend time at Bundanon,’ Mr McGauran said.

‘Interaction between different students from around the country, as well as their parents, teachers and adult groups at the centre, will be rewarding for everyone concerned.

‘It is most encouraging to see the spirit of philanthropy, demonstrated by the Boyd’s through their gift to the nation of the Bundanon homestead and collection, continued in the development of the Education Centre.

‘Fred and Dorothy Street have generously donated towards the construction of this centre.

‘All those involved, including architects Glenn Murcutt in association with Reg Lark and Wendy Lewin, have ensured the project’s success,’ Mr McGauran said.

Bundanon Trust was established with seed funding from the Commonwealth Government.
