Minister welcomes contribution to development of Employee Share Ownership

The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Tony Abbott, today addressed the Employee Ownership Group at the launch of the group’s official policy, Employee share ownership in Australia: the future, in Sydney.

The Employee Ownership Group policy launch comes a fortnight after the Minister’s launch of the Employee Share Ownership website and package of user-friendly information developed by his Department.

The Minister welcomed the initiative by the Employee Ownership Group in developing its policy document.

“Generating discussion on employee share ownership is an essential element to increasing the number of schemes and employees’ access to them.”

“At the same time, employee share schemes under the existing concessional arrangements should also be much more vigorously promoted, and the Government is doing that.”

The Employee Share Ownership Development Unit, established in the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations earlier this year, assists employers and employees with information and ideas on the design and implementation of employee share plans. The unit also collects information about the barriers to the spread of employee share ownership.
