VETERANS TO BENEFIT FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FUNDING TO THE MALLEE TRACK HEALTH & COMMUNITY SERVICE

Mallee veterans will benefit from a Federal Government grant of more than $18,900 to the Mallee Track Health and Community Service, the Member for Mallee, John Forrest, announced today.

Mr Forrest said the Mallee Track Health and Community Service provided a range of services to residents of the remote north-western corner of Victoria.

"The organisation has identified a need, especially among the more geographically isolated members of the community, to participate in regular physical and social activity," he said.

"The Mallee Track Health and Community Service will use its grant, provided under the Veteran & Community Grants programme, to establish a healthy lifestyle program for local veterans and their families", Mr Forrest said.

Australia owes a debt of gratitude to its veterans and service personnel for their service and sacrifice in times of war and conflict and their continuing contribution to our community.

Through Veteran & Community Grants, the Howard Government is helping to repay that debt, by providing project funding to ex-service organisations and other groups who are best placed to meet the needs of the veteran community. Veteran & Community Grants offer important assistance to projects that aim to improve the quality of life of veterans, war widows and their dependents.

More information and Veteran & Community Grants application forms are available from the office of Mr Forrest by contacting 1300 131 620 or the Department of Veterans' Affairs by contacting 133 254 or www.dva.gov.au/health/grants.
