Redland Youth Invited to Join Environment Project

Member for Bowman, Andrew Laming, today invited young people, aged 17 to 20, to take part in an exciting new Green Corps project, which begins in the Redland Shire this month.

“This is a great opportunity for 10 young people in the Redlands to receive accredited training in Conservation and Land Management, a six month participant allowance of up to $376 a week, as well as an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to their local environment,” said Mr Laming

The Natural Area Enhancement and Community Engagement Project, involves revegetation, weed management, erosion management and building boardwalks and walking trails at various sites across the shire..

“This project will incorporate a range of activities which will contribute to the understanding and appreciation of the land and instil a greater sense of community ownership of the Redlands.

“The environment is the big winner: to date the achievements of Green Corps volunteers include propagating and planting over ten million trees, erecting more than 7,000 kilometres of fencing, removal of over 36,500 hectares of weeds, collecting over 8,600 kilograms of seeds, and building or maintaining more than 4,000 kilometres of walking track or boardwalks.”

People interested in becoming involved in this project can obtain an application form by calling the Green Corps hotline on 1800 077 700 or visit the Green Corps website at
