TRANSCRIPT OF DOORSTOP - LAUNCH OF THE ‘LET’S KEEP TELSTRA PUBLIC’ CAMPAIGN, BOURKE, WEDNESDAY 9 OCTOBER 2002

E & OE - PROOF ONLY

Subjects: Telstra Petition

CREAN: Australians don’t want the rest of Telstra sold. But the Estens Inquiry set up by the Howard Government is not going to get the opportunity to hear that from ordinary Australians.

The Estens Inquiry is not even hearing public submissions.

So we’re launching a kit today that gives people the opportunity to say: no further sale of Telstra.

It gets them to express their views about the state of Telstra’s services, and the fact that they don’t want it further sold.

This is the opportunity for Australians to tell people, tell the Government what they think of Telstra’s services. The Estens Inquiry doesn’t give them that opportunity, but the Labor Party will.

And I urge people to get behind this survey, tell us their views, send them, and send that message to the Government.
