$232,190 to Help NSW/ACT Veteran Community

Ex-service organisations in New South Wales and the ACT will receive grants totalling $232,190 from the Federal Government to help members of the veteran community, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Bruce Scott, announced today.

Mr Scott said 62 organisations around Australia would receive grants from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs through the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) program.

"Ex-service organisations play a vital role in supporting veterans and their dependants in making claims for repatriation benefits and through the appeals process," he said.

"Through BEST, the Government has allocated $5.6 million over four years to provide support and resources to the ex-service organisations which supply these services.

Mr Scott said the BEST funding would go towards the cost of employing advocates and leasing computer equipment and IT support for veteran's advice services.

The NSW/ACT organisations to benefit from the first round of BEST funding are:

•  Huskisson RSL Sub-Branch - $2085

•  RSL (NSW) Welfare & Benevolent Fund - $82,404

•  Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia - $ 61,150

•  The Kindred Organisations Committee (ACT) - $401

•  Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia Far North Coast Sub-Branch - $1902

•  Vietnam Veterans' Federation Great Lakes Outpost - $1833

•  Sydney Legacy Appeals Fund - $56,772

•  Vietnam Veterans' Federation of Australia ACT Branch - $15,227

•  Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia Illawarra Sub-Branch - $1002

•  Legacy Club of Canberra Inc. - $1083

•  City of Albury RSL - $1229

•  Glen Innes RSL Sub-Branch - $1083

•  Southwest Rocks RSL Sub-Branch - $1083

•  Sawtell RSL Sub-Branch - $1083

•  Regular Defence Force Welfare Association NSW Branch - $150

•  Vietnam Veterans' Federation of Australia Gosford City Branch - $454

•  Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy - $1083
