Windsor calls upon Minister to review decision not to renew 2ARM’s community broadcasting licence

The Independent Member for New England, Tony Windsor, has today sent an urgent letter to the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator the Hon Helen Coonan, concerning the decision by the Australian Communications and Media Authority not to renew 2ARM’s

community broadcasting licence.

Mr Windsor said he has asked the Minister if an extension to the expiry date of 2ARM’s broadcasting licence of Tuesday, 2 October, 2007 could be granted as a matter of urgency in light of the concerns which have been raised by the Armidale Community Radio Co-operative.

“I have also asked the Minister if the decision to refuse 2ARM’s broadcasting licence could be reviewed and for her advice on this issue as soon as possible,” Mr Windsor said.

“I certainly share the many concerns which have been raised by the Co-operative and the Armidale community in relation to this decision and have expressed my full support to the Minister for the renewal of 2ARM’s broadcasting licence.”

Mr Windsor said the station plays a very important role in the Armidale district by focussing upon local issues and said that he would continue to closely pursue this matter with the Minister.
